| About The Art of Dar Hosta |
You may know me from my children's books and my work in the Mid-Atlantic schools I visit, or you may know me from art shows in the New Jersey and Pennsylvania area. I have two sites where you can view my work. Here, you may view and purchase limited edition prints of my original collages, my books, and view my event calendar. Use the image icons below to navigate. If you are interested in my work as a children's author & illustrator or would like information on my School Visits, go to www.darhosta.com.
My collages are assembled from paper that I paint with acrylics. I use Japanese "kozo" paper to create a palette of colors from which I cut the pieces for the collage. The background is acrylic on Arches paper. I use different "brushes" to create texture and color in my work: sponges, paint combs, plastic forks, burlap and objects with interesting shapes. Each piece of the image is cut and arranged on the background before adhering and, after adhesion, embellished with liquid inks. I use a "dry glue" which keeps the collage very dimensional. My method is highly detail oriented and large or intricate collages can represent up to 100 hours of work.
